Leadership Exploration And Development

Program Overview

American Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Development Program (LEAD) is a diverse, flexible and innovative program to assist in the needs of growing Oklahoma through informed leaders. The primary purpose is to provide educational and leadership opportunities for rural Oklahomans. For more information regarding the LEAD program contact Megan Albright, Adult Education Coordinator at 405-218-5416 or email [email protected]

Leadership State Council / District Committees

The State Council meets to plan events and activities and guide the mission of the program. They work year-long in promoting and implementing the goals of the group. District Committees are another leadership opportunity for members. These committees work to plan and promote events in their area each year.

LEAD Initiative Program

This year’s program focuses on the need to educate Oklahomans about food production. The LEAD program offers agricultural advocacy educational trunks you can borrow to host an event in your local community. With very simple set up and instruction anyone can become an Advocate for Ag.

LEAD Academy / Mentor Program

Each year a group of individuals from across the state are selected to participate in the LEAD Academy. The program is designed to inform future leaders of AFR about Education, Legislation, Cooperation and Leadership. The academy meets four times a year and also offers a mentor program to participants.

LEAD State Conference

AFR LEAD program hosts a state conference each year. This event focuses on developing leadership skills and highlights the current LEAD initiative program. It is a great opportunity to bring LEAD members from across the state together for a two day educational and networking opportunity. Each year the conference is held in a different part of the state to highlight the diversity of Oklahoma.

District Forums / Tours & Other Events

AFR is passionate about providing educational opportunities in our member’s backyards. District meetings and retreats focus on highlighting area agribusinesses and issues affecting Oklahoma and local communities. Additional tours and activities take place each year across the state.

Collegiate AFR

CAFR offers agricultural students an opportunity to grow their leadership skills with emphasis on education, cooperation and legislation by meeting with agricultural professionals in Oklahoma.

CAFR will be working with the Leadership Exploration and Development or LEAD program for adult AFR members to provide opportunities for students to travel throughout the school year. Officers have planned for CAFR members to visit the state capitol, livestock producers and other agricultural practices in Oklahoma.

CAFR strives to help develop collegiate members to be successful in their future careers in the agricultural industry by providing them with opportunities to advance their professional development.
