More than 4,000 Oklahoma elementary school students expressed their appreciation for farmers during the 2017 American Farmers & Ranchers poster contest.
Voting delegates at the recent 2017 AFR convention elected two new leaders and re-elected three current leaders for their board of directors and officers. The voting took place Feb. 18 during the second day of the three-day annual convention at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Norman, Okla.
CAFR offers agricultural students an opportunity to grow their leadership skills with emphasis on education, cooperation and legislation by meeting with agricultural professionals in Oklahoma.
This contest is designed to recognize Oklahoma youth who have an interest in livestock, excel in showmanship skills and have knowledge of the livestock industry to include production, management, processing and end product utilization.
American Farmers & Ranchers sponsors college scholarships annually to young people who have been active participants in the Youth Program. College scholarships are given annually to assist participants financially with college and university expenses.

Throughout 2016, AFR members, youth, agents and local volunteers gathered donations during county and statewide events. Members were asked to bring nonperishable canned goods to county annual meetings, county fairs, and other local events. Youth at the annual leadership summit played a major role in meeting the Women’s Cooperative goal.

The Officers and Board of Directors’ seats up for election are: Secretary, Independent Director District 1, Independent Director District 4, Agent Director District 1, Agent Director District 3 and Independent State-wide Director.
Insurance veteran and financial executive Justin Cowan has been selected as CEO of American Farmers & Ranchers Insurance. The AFR Insurance Board of Directors made the announcement effective Nov. 15, 2016.
